When purchasing a lawnmower, you need to have a good idea where to get the necessary parts and accessories that will enable you to make the repairs when your machine lands into trouble. This is usually not a problem for those purchasing new machines as the dealer will carry a stock of replacement parts.
For those who are considering purchasing used equipment, make sure that the parts for the model you are buying are available on the market. Lawn mower parts fall into two categories: attachments that give additional functionality to the machine and parts that need to be replaced as a result of wear and tear.
Replacement Parts
Here is a list of lawn mower parts that frequently require replacing:
(I) Lawn Mower Blades—these are the parts that work the most in the lawn mower. It is therefore the ones that will require replacing often. An annual replacement is usually warranted.
(II) Air filters—enables good functioning of the engine. A yearly replacement is usually necessary.
(III) Tires—these usually take longer to wear down but eventually you may need to find replacement for them too.
(IV) Engines—once your current engine has reached its term, you may need to purchase a new one. Many people simply prefer to purchase a new machine altogether.
Accessories
Not all accessories are worth the extra money. An evaluation of your particular needs is needed before you decide of buying an accessory. A list of accessories is given below:
(i) Bags to collect grass clippings (not necessary if you intend to mulch)
(ii) Electric key starter—makes starting the engine so much simpler.
(iii) Blade break clutch—allows you to keep the engine running while the blades are stopped. This is useful when emptying bags as you do not have to start the engine every time.
