drained the gas, removed the carb's bowl and wiped clean. filled it up with new gas and started right up

My lawnmower runs off of gasoline and oil, seperate. My problem is that I can not tell the difference between oil and gasoline, and have no idea which is which...

Mainly what is the difference in smell, or looks, and if I screwed up, could it damage my lawnmower?

Same issue and is getting worse. It is to the point now where with a full tank it stalls constantly until the gas gets lower and lower. It slowly gets a little better as the gas goes away. It runs somewhat normally for about 3 minutes and then runs extremely faster than normal and shuts off. Any ideas?

The bowl was damp. I took it apart and check to see if the float was stuck. It was all totally clean and free. I put it back together again. I believe the leak was from a hose instead of the carb. When I started the mower up afterwards, it started blowing thick smoke and running rough. It ran fine and didnt smoke at all before I took the carb off. Any ideas?
