Home Depot has a cheaper line of tractors. Dealers handle different model numbers and are built to last. Go see a dealer and ask him to tell you the difference to a HD. I bought a Deere in 1990 and with regular maintenance it is still going strong and looks like new. Last year I asked my dealer why I’d have to pay $4100.00 to him should I want to replace mine vs $1700.00 for a similar model at HD. He explained the difference to me. I’m happy with my 1990 with no plans on replacing it. I don’t think I’d say the same with a HD Deere.

The machine will naturally be more expensive at the dealer, but there is a reason why. The big box stores make purchase deals with manufactures like JD to build a "slimmed down, cost cut" model for sale in the stores. What you buy from HD is less money but it is also lower quality, even to the point, in some cases, of having a smaller engine than the comparable model you find at a JD dealer. It still remains-you get what you pay for.
