does anyone know how to start up a lt155 john deere mower?

my dad showed me how to a couple weeks ago but now i cant figure it out it wont start or do anything at all what am i not doing right?

    Hold the brake pedal with your foot. Press the start/run switch all the way forward, turn the key. When it starts, put the start/run switch in the run mode. If it doesn’t start right away, put it in run mode, turn the ignition key, push the start/run forward for an instant and then return to run position.
