Help! to mechanics who knows about lawn mowers?
I have to buy new lawn mowers almost every years, I did all the instruction told me to do, add gasoline, oil to another then press the bottom three time, but my new lawn mower just won't start this time. I used it only 12 times including last summer, now it's broken again, what should I check for? I just don't want to buy another one this year, Thanks in advance

first thing see if its getting spark. pull the spark plug out (take a 5/8" or 13/16" socket and unplug the spark plug then use the socket to unscrew the plug) the plug the spark plug back up with it out of the engine. it will be very easy to turn the engine with the plug out. place the plug against the engine so you can see the part that is normally in the engine and pull the cord turning the engine it should spark. if it doesn't the that's the problem if it does then look at the fuel system. try cleaning it with carb cleaner. you can try cranking once using starting fluid. odds are once you get it going it will be fine unless you have no spark.
clean your spark plug, prime it but make sure it is not flooded. make sure there is oil.
After not using them, they usually get off to a rough start.
keep trying, it should work. Make sure the exhause and air filter are not clogged also.
Once it starts, you will probably go the rest of the summer without a problem, then next year, you will go through the same thing again.
There are several different things possible. I would first take out the spark plug and make sure it is properly gapped and clean. then I would check the air filter. The last thing I try is to put the spark plug in the wire lead and touch it to metal other than near the compression chamber, if there is spark you know that's ok. Then smell for gas fumes or see if any liquid is pushed out of the chamber when trying the spark plug. If both of those are okay then I would make sure of the opil level too full and they have sensors that won't let them run, too low and you have the same situation. I hope this helps and isn't TMI
change spark plug clean air filter or put new one and before put spark plug back in put teaspoon of fresh fuel in hole put spark plug in and crank if cranks and goes off you have carb problem buy rebuild kit and clean carb.
I'm speaking to you as a woman who has broke a lawn mower a year for the last 4 years…unbelievable, right. I had no idea about the spark plugs needing to be changed or the blades needing sharpened. I was good with the oil and gas and priming the motor. Little did I know that you needed to change spark plugs on a lawn mower, right! Well, I've found the solution to spending 200-300 each summer. I bought a really nice Craftsman mower at Sears. It was about 300 dollars. I bought their extended warranty (75 dollars). It's a 3 year warranty, and it covers changing the spark plugs and sharpening the blades (things that us women just don't want to do). Also, you get a 10% discount on all mower accessories for the next 3 years. I figure, I'm at least going to have it for 3 years this time. You also can learn a lot about mowers in the Sears lawn center, but really with me, I'd rather pay the 75 bucks to have someone maintain it for me.
Hope this helps!!!
