this is easy i will walk u through it. take off recoil usually 4 bolts or three. once got off pull cord out until stops while holding cord put screwdriver through disk so it doesn't wind back in.pull knot end up cut off with scissors or cutters and pull out.be careful not to let screwdriver in disk go because this could mess up spring.next take new rope with handle already installed usally rope 6 to 7 foot and slip through outer hole into disk until u see and pull up and tie overhand knot and and make sure tight.next hold pull cord by handle or cord and pull out screwdriver making sure holding cord and let cord slowly wind back in good luck.

Remove the four mounting nuts on the recoil starter.
    Remove recoil device from engine.
locate and cut the knot on the end of the rope on the inside.
    pull rope from starter.
wind recoil spring by rotating the plastic disc backwards.
thread new rope thru hole in recoil housing and thru hole in starter disk.
tie a knot in the rope (small).
attatch start handle to other end of rope and you're done.
