How do I remove the Flywheel from a Briggs and Strat. 310707 lawn mower engine?
I blew a piston on my riding lawn mower and I know that the pistons are kept underneath the flywheel. I've managed to take off everything except for the fly wheel and it's stuck on. I had my brother and me try to lift it and still couldn't get it off. Does anyone know how to remove it?

It’s probably pressed on, in which case you’ll need a special puller tool to remove it. This is a kind of claw-shaped device with a yoke in the middle that has a threaded bolt running through it. You attach the claw to the edges of the flywheel and turn the bolt against the shaft to remove it.
JW almost got it right you need to put a lever under the flywheel before you give a tap creating pressure on the on the tapered shaft. Sounds like your cheepest option is to get another donk its not cheep to do a rebuild properly. If you cut corners it will end up costing a lot more
Yes close. The way I do it is get a big flat screw driver. Place that under the Flywheel and put pressure on it. I use my knee. Then with a brass punch and a hammer tap the shaft and the flywheel will pop off. Check it because sometimes they look like they didnt move but they did.
Loosen the flywheel nutand then put it back on just finger tight. Then hit the nut with a heavy hammer. Put a block of hardwood on the nut so you lessen the chance of ruining the threads. Then the wheel should be loose enough to pull off. For the amount of time and trouble and the money involved, you can buy a replacement motor from Harbor Freight and have a new one to install. A small engine rebuild is expensive and hardly worth the trouble when you can buy the replacement for about $600.
