how reliable / durable are SELF PROPELLED LAWN MOWERS?

in particular the self propelled mechanism, do they have a rep for breaking down often?

are they difficult / expensive to repair?/

    I would advise against them . waste of money

    self propelled mechanism only lasts about 1 year

    Its my opinion they are not worth the problems and when they break down have to pay labour to get fixed i would never get one .
    A friend had one years ago and after same thing breaking down twice in short space of time and having to buy parts to fix same problem part each time ended up curing the problem by modifying the system on his lathe.
    He said at the time poor beggars who couldn’t do that would be running down paying to get fixed all the time.
    The only reason for self propelled is heavy commercial type or a lawn tractor.
    Pushing a non self propelled lawnmower is cheaper and does not have an unnecessary expensive system

    If you use it correctly and clean it after each use it should work fine.They are reliable if yourself gets out there and propells it, lol.

    There are several different mechanisms used, and it really depends on the one your lawn mower uses.
    However, most of them are very reliable.
