While gas may be the problem, it is more likely that you need to check or replace your air cleaner.
Some air cleaners are a canister that simply screws on (usually a quarter turn bayonet mount) while some are housed in shroud that has a screw to secure the housings together.
Also check the spark plug (however, if you can start it, this is an unlikely problem.
Many engines have a small bowl with a hex plug at the bottom that can drain the fuel out. Capture any fuel drained into a container, not just drained onto ground.
And no smoking while working!
turn the mower over to drain.check you fuel filter to see if its clean and fuel line to make sure its not stopped up.
So, why are u draining the tank? Get some carb. spray and clean the carb. make sure ur primer pump is in good shape. No cracks or brittle. Is there water in the gas? U can dump it in a pan when u turn it up side down. Is the engine need oil in gas for 2-cycle engine or a 4 stroke system? Is the choke applied? is the idle adjusted correctly? If everything fail…take it the mower shop and let the qualify personnel do it.
Disconect Fuel tank feeder hose to carborator/take gascap off.
When was the last time you cleaned the airfilter? They will start but not stay running if the airfilter is dirty. Take it out take a toothbrush and clean it with gas, wash it off, let stand in the sun for a few minutes and pop it back in and you should be good to go.
Get a drain pan and remove your gas cap.
flip the mower over and pour it into the drain pan. Save the old gas. I keep mine in a one gallon antifreeze bottle. I use it to clean parts, kill insects, and start the fire barrel. Remove your spark plug and see if it is black and fowled out also. Bad gas will fowl out the plug. Clean the plug or replace it. Clean the air filter, and be sure to prime the bulb after you have put in some fresh gas.
Well if you want to die go ahead and try to dump it but to properly drain you gas you should just let your mower run. But with your problem you probably need a tune up on your spark plugs or a valve job. Try seeing a repair man. Gas is probably not your problem.
flip it up side down
I think the reason your "push mower" won't stay running is that push mowers DON'T HAVE ENGINES!
They also don't have gas tanks, so you're in the clear, no need to drain gas from the non-existant tank.
when i start my mower afetr few minutes it will stop, and then its hard to start. i have to wait for smoetimes to restart again and then it will stop.
