how to repair my craftsman riding lawn mower mod#536270302. I jumped the battery to start it, and after I?

shut it off to remove the jumper it would not turn over. I noticed the fuse was blown and replaced it but it still did not turn over. I jumped the seat and clutch switches and it still did not turn over. I then jumped the solenoid and the engine did turn over. I assume the problem is either in the ignition or solenoid but i do not know how to troubleshoot these parts. I am looking for some help to determine what I need to do to get the mower to turn over again. Thanks.

  1. William B says:

its the starter solenoid replace it
any time you can jump the starter solenoid and it starts that will tell you the solenoid is bad

  2. renpen says:

With the battery fully charged it should read 12.6 volts or so. Now with the ignition switch in the start position you should get 12 volts on the small wire attached to the solenoid. If the solenoid is working you will also get 12 volts on the starter side of the solenoid. What blew the fuse? Did you hook the cables up backwards? That probably won't hurt anything except maybe the fuse. I would clean all the connections from the battery to the starter including the grounds. How old is the battery? They are only good for a couple of seasons.
