I am thinking about buying a Troy built, lawn mower. Does ne 1 think this is a good idea?

Troy built, zero radius, Kohler 22 hp engine used to cut about 3 acres of lawn regularly. Would another brand be better than this? Any ideas or recommendations?

You will just be buying a popular name brand, that's all. Shop around at places like Home Depot, Lowe's, or some farm supply stores for a cheaper brand that will do the same job. All have about the same warranty.

    "Toro "

These are great mowers but usually only practical if you have a big yard with lots of trimming (trees, bushes, etc)

what you really need to think about with a purchase like this is the engine, kohler is a very good engine. i would definaqtley get the extended warranty though because they will come to your house and fix it for 3 or 4 years instead of you having to take it back to the store. that is if you are buying it from lowes

toro is the best brand for a zero turn follows closely by Farris, gravely, john Deere, . I have 3 acres in MD and have used both the toro and the Farris(with the suspension) both are great and reliable but the Farris is more comfortable because of the suspension. never saw troy built when shopping except at the junk shops

Toro makes a good mower, as does John Deere. Neither are cheap, but if you get a cheap riding mower, you'll probably have to replace it in 4-5 years. A good Deere or Toro will last you 10-15 years. I had a Deere rider that I sold when it was 20 years old, and it was still in usable shape.

We have a troy built mower, not sure exactly which one, but it works really well.

Mower brand is really not a big issue. All new mowers will work fine, and Kohler makes a fine engine, as does Briggs and Stratton. The question you need to ask yourself is what happens when it breaks?? Notice I said when, not if. How good is the parts distribution network? Can you obtain parts quickly? How quickly can warranty repairs be completed? Do you have to take it anywhere for warranty service or are repairs made at your home?
For these reasons, I've always had Craftsman mowers from Sears. They have an excellent parts distribution network, parts can be ordered by calling an "800" number or directly off the internet. I also purchased their "Shop Repair" plan, which for a lawn tractor or Zero-turn, is all at-home service – you don't have to take it anywhere. The shop plan was for 3 years, and I had the repair people out several times, at no cost to me. The repair people were prompt, courteous, and fixed the mower the same day. Sears does sell several Zero-turn models under the "Craftsman" name with different sized decks and different engines (Kohler and Briggs & Stratton).
Yes, I now work for Sears, but was a satisfied customer long before I ever went to work for them. Take a look at the Craftsman Zero-turn's before making a final decision. BTW, all Craftsman Lawn tractor's and Zero-turn's are made by Husqvarna, which is a very respected name in the industry.

lol, that would be nice for 10+ acers
i would suggest a smaller riding mower.
unless you have the money, then get it, they are nice
