I have a 10 yr old Briggs & Stratton 5 HP Quantum Lawn Mower. Q: Where is the drain plug for the oil?
I can see 3 bolts but these bolts look like they hold the engine to the mower part. I need to know what it looks like and exactly where to look for it; is it big small, is it a screw or a bolt, etc. Thanks! P.S. - How much oil will it take?

Tip your mower on it side so the air cleaner and carburetor are up, and you need to look for a square hole on the under side of the engine. This hole will fit a 3/8" drive from a ratchet. We remove the blade, position a catch pan under the mower, remove the plug, lower the mower back down, and let it drain. The Quantum takes 20 ounces of SAE 30 oil. Make sure you reinstall the plug before you try and fill it back up with oil.
should be a 1/2 inch bolt abt2 inches perpindicular to the carb side of engine near the output shaft m ake sure to clean area well before removing drain plug. after removing drain plug remove filler cap as well so oil flows out freely.while it's draining why not use this time to remove the sparkplug run astrip of emory loth through the gap a few times and regap it? reverse this procedure and it will take abt 3/4 quart of oil if memory serves.
If you can t find it on the base, tip mower up and look under neath.. They sometimes put it under the decking so you may have to scrape some old built up grass on bottom to look for it.. Don t forget to tip mower up away from the piston area so you don t get oil up into the cylinder GL
