I have a wizard riding mower and it turns off when I engage the deck?
It works fine until you put the deck down and suddenly it turns off. I've looked and looked for the fuse or whatever the cause is and have asked for help at our local riding mower fix it people. They are out of ideas and want me to bring it in. This is my last hope to fix it myself.
It is a AYP rider. It has this problem even when I take off the deck.

Avast there Peggy Pirate! There is a few things it could be. First there may be a short in the interlock switch or wire connections to the switch that is causing the problem. Or, it could be that the blade clutch is putting too much tension on the blade drive belt. Or, there is a bad bushing in the blade spindle, causing too much drag when you try to put the deck into action. Or, maybe the drive belt is the wrong length (too short). This last one is something worth checking if the belt was replaced recently. Maybe you have tried this already, but give the deck a real good cleaning (no pressure washers though) and a lube it. Also, the deck could be dropping too far or not dropping evenly. Good luck. Us pirates gotta stick together.
It sounds like your blades are stuck or jammed. Remove the spark plug wire. Jack it up and make sure the blades are rotating freely.
wizard riding mowers have a plunger deck kill switch located at the bottom of the mower engagement handle. It will kill the motor if it goes bad when the handle is pushed forward to engage the mower deck. I pulled mine out and jumped across the plug leads to complete the circut. The switch is a safety feature so by doing this beware of live mower deck when running the mower. Hope this helps.
Hi ther;
i have a wizard riding mower 18 hp 39″ cut i bought it off a guy. He said he had got a newer one. He first told me that it worked fine and cut good and the only thing wrong was the governor. when it runs it sound like its wanting to cut off. idle high then low then high then low. i got it home and began to cut my grass but after awhile 15 to 20 min or so it dies out. i also notice the 2nd time i tried when it was about to die out i would pull the choke out and it would rib up again so i could cut a little longer 5 min later it dies out again and i push the choke back in and the idle goes back up again and i cut a little longer. then when the idle goes down again doesn’t matter if i pull out or push in the choke it dies out. when i try to start it back up it wont. it turns over but never start. thought it was my battery but i tried another battery and it did the same thing. i need help!
