I need help with my driving lawn mower?

I recently purchased a driving lawn mover it is a craftsman mower so when ever I lower the deck on the mower then raise it again the belt gets torn up or rips. So I need some help because I don't want to spend hundreds on dollars on repairs so I don't know if I have to balance the deck or if I need to get a new mower but the deck only had a 90 day warinty. Can anyone please help me?

    Sounds to me your belt is not on right. Needs to be on the pulleys the right way and behind all guides and guards. Put a new belt on and with the mower off. Let the deck down and spin the pulley and see if the belt is rubbing something. Do the same thing with the deck up and going up. If rubbing on anything it will burn off fast and tear.
