Is it safe to run my electric corded mower by doing away with the cord and running it off of battery?

That depends on the battery chemistry and size – it may overheat if the current draw exceeds it’s designed discharge rate.

There’s also the matter of safely mounting a decent sized battery and a DC to AC power inverter on the mower, unless you plan to put them in a backpack or wagon.

the battery is there for the purpose of mowing the lawn using the battery power, the cord is to be used to charge it, refer back to your manual or where you bought it,.

I think I understand that your mower runs from a power outlet from your home which depending on where you are could be between 120 and 240 volts. If so then no you can’t run it off a battery. You could if you change the motor to a voltage of the battery you intend to use.
There are already battery powered mowers out there and they give about twenty minutes of mowing per charge.
