Lawn Mower Maintenance?

I have a problem. My daughter poured gas into the oil reservoir on our lawn mower. Is there anyway to drain this? Will it damage the mower? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you all very much for your answers! I definitely feel more confident in taking care of this. Thanks all!!

simple don’t start the mower just drain the oil and fill up with 30w oil because 30w is whats required in all small engines

Yes – do not start mower. Simply take oil cap off and turn mower on its side and drain oil out of mower completely. Then refill oil reservoir with fresh 10W40 motor oil. Easy

what you could do is just drain the oil like you were changing the oil let it dry for a few hours and then put the plug back in and refill it with new oil. and if you havent ran the mover since you put it in there then it should be fine but if you ran it the before you put the plug back in turn it over a few times and DONT TURN IT ALL THE WAY ON AND DO NOT GET NEAR THE PLUG OPIN ING IT WELL SPIT THE REST OF THE OIL OUT.

If you run the engine with gas in the oil, you will add excessive wear to the moving parts. There is also the possibility of an internal engine fire. remove the plug that drains the oil ( usually on the bottom of the engine) drain and let air dry for a few hours. Refill the crankcase with SAE 30 motor oil and you are back in business, no harm done. Good Luck!!

All of the above answers are correct. While you’re doing this, why not change the plug and sharpen, or have sharpened, the blade. Then you’re ready for spring.

Don’t tip the mower on it’s side to drain the oil. It has a drain plug on the bottom of engine for that purpose. If you tip it wrong you will get oil into the air filter through the crankcase vent. Just find the plug and drain the oil the way it is supposed to be done. It will be just fine. The gas will run out with the oil and the rest will evaporate.
