Lawn mowers and filling car with gas on hot days?

On some hot summer days, the news reporters say that people are being urged to not use lawn mowers or fill their cars with gas. Why not? What is the reasoning behind this?

I don't know for sure but my guess would be that filling a gas tank on a very hot day would produce more gas fumes due to the heat. As for the mower, it just adds pollution to the air.

If it's such a big deal, why don't they outlaw diesel engines? Seems like PC crap to me.

It’s bad for the ozone… on hot days you should do these things in the evening…. when the sun is going down.
