New lawn mower that is having trouble starting?

I bought a brand new lawn mower a couple weeks ago. Mowed the lawn and everything worked great. Went to mow again this weekend and it wouldn't start. I press the primer button a couple times and it starts up, runs for 2 or 3 seconds, and dies. This leads me to believe its not getting gas. This is a brand new mower, could anyone tell me why this is happening???

try pumping primer even after it starts if after a minute or two if it still wont run on its own something is wrong with carburetor maybe something as simple a adjusting the needle valve setting but could be other things to numerous to list here

If that is a Craftsman mower, press the primer button 6 times counting 1001-1002 in between pumps. you aren't getting enough primer gas into the carb, to keep it running long enough to siphon from the tank..
If the tank is less than half full, refill it , before you try to start the first time….

If it still doesn't start, take it to Sears parts to have it repaired, it will be free under the service agreement…You did buy the service agreement, didn't you?

Take it back to where you bought it and get a replacement.

It does sound like a fuel issue. Look into the fuel tank with a flashlight. Look for dirt or water in the tank. Water will look like "blobs" on the bottom of the tank. If the tank is clean I would suspect the carburetor. I would think that at two weeks old it is still under some warranty. Make them fix it. Anything that you do other than normal maintenance will probably void the warranty.

Find the rubber tube gas line and unhook it from the carburetor. Now with a rag handy, blow air into the fuel line hose, then see if gas flows out. You probably got some rust, debris in the gas tank from when you first filled or re-fueld the mower.
Or a float in the carburetor got stuck. Tap on carburetor lightly with a screwdriver handle. Fill gas tank all the way up.
