Without actually seeing it I'm assuming it has a small sprocket from the transmission connected to a large sprocket on the rear wheel axle. A third small sprocket is called an idler gear which adjusts the chain tension. If you have adjusted the idler and it keeps popping off, especially while mowing on a slope, it could be a bad bearing on one of the three to cause a misalignment of the chain. It could also be a worn out chain. If the chain is worn out resist the temptation to only replace the chain, it will quickly wear the teeth off the sprockets. You should always replace the chain and three sprockets as a set. RScott
make sure the sprockets are all lined up if one is ouy of line it will keep coming off make sure the chain is not too loose it needs just a small bit of slack

Remove the seat (4 bolts?) the idler gear is accessible right underneath. It is on a slider and adjustable.
