Toro self propelled mower. Is the blade held on by a normal (right tight) bolt?
If it is, then it's jammed pretty darn tight because I broke a socket trying to loosen it with a torque wrench ( by turning left )!
I'm about to take an impact wrench to it, but I need to be sure!

The nut is regular right hand thread, it is also , probably an aircraft nut. This is a special kind of nut with a nylon liner that
keeps the nut from vibrating loose during operation. Go ahead and use your impact, but, use, a real heavy duty, impact socket, if you can find one, get a 12 point socket, it'll have more grip. The best way to take off and put on a mower blade is with an impact, good luck.
Yes it's a standard thread. Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey. Give 'er hell. (pull the spark plug wire off the plug while you're tinkerin' with that).
I agree with previous answer but I would add that you spray on some WD40 or similar and let it sit for a few hours. Maybe spray again during that time. The rust and corrosion gets pretty heavy on that bolt.
the best way to determine the "direction" of a screw is to note the direction it works in!! take a hand held circular saw,, the blade rotates anti-clock was so the screw is threaded as a righty tighty! a table saw blade turns clock wise so to tighten the nut on it you turn anti-(lefty) to tighen it,,, whichever way the blade turns you have to go opposite to tighten this prevents to screw or bolt from working lose from the torque!!
most american mowers are lefty losey!!! they WILL get tight because they are MADE to tighten up from the torque,, always spray with WD-40 etc and use a box wrench or socket with as many 'teeth' as possible to get a better grip and prevent stripping the heads or breaking a socket ,, and use at least a 3/4" drive socket
