Used Lawn Mowers

The purpose behind buying a used lawn mower is to save on cash while obtaining a quality machine that will do the job acceptably well. The market abounds with used lawn mowers that individuals and groups are selling, in view of renewing their stock or for various other reasons.

The quality of these used machines is very variable and therefore they should be examined on a case by case basis. The lifespan of a lawnmower depends greatly on several factors such as:

* The type of lawnmower
* The amount it has been used
* The terrain it has been used on

The amount of usage and the terrain are very specific factors that the buyer has to investigate before purchasing. These cannot be discussed here. Let us therefore take a close look at the type of lawnmowers, and the relative advantages.

There are many types of lawn mowers but the main ones fall into the following categories:

* Walk Behind Lawn Mowers—these are usually fairly simple machines. They include a small engine, usually around 5hp and have one blade. Most often used by those with small lawns or by landscapers who need a small lawn mower to cut around objects and around edges. These mowers can range in price from about $100 but can get quite expensive for commercial models. Some models require the user to push them while more advanced models are self propelled and only require the user to steer and stop.

* Riding Lawn Mowers—These come in many shapes and sizes. Standard riding lawn mowers have an engine of at least 10hp mounted to the front of the mower and the cutting deck is underneath. Other types of riding lawn mowers are called zero turn mowers. These are most often used commercially. The engine is mounted on the rear with the cutting deck out front, making them easy to maneuver around objects.
