..When you pull the recoil starter, you are rotating the engine, as if it was running.  By doing so, the magnet imbedded into the fly-wheel passes by the iron -core of the ignition coil, the magnetic field of the permanent magnet induces an (electro motive force)(emf) in the coil, which quickly collapses creating a high voltage, low current to the spark plug.  The charge jumps across the spark plug gap, so that is goes to &#039;ground&#039; and is finished.
The spark across the &#039;gap&#039; is what ignites the gasoline/air mixture which is under compression(power strohe) of the engine.
Once the engine starts, the process keeps on going , until you stall the engine, or cut off the ignition(dropping the handle part, turn a swith on which grounds the charge)stopping the engine.....</description>
