If you have only a small yard, you can purchase a basic electric mower that requires a cord for about $150 if you shop around. You can also get a basic gas mower in the price range of $150 to $180. For a small yard, you need only a basic model of either. Either electric or gas models will do just as good a job of cutting the grass.
You could either purchase a small electric mowe, or if it is really just a landing strip, you could purchase a manual push mower, the types that were around before electric and gas ones. Cost about 60 to 80 bucks for a good one, you get a little more excercise, it uses zero energy and doesn’t take up any space. Just a little rust prevention for maintenance.
I have a manual push mower and an electric weed whacker. Takes me all of 30 minutes to mow and trim my front and back yards. (front yard is 15×30 feet and back yard is 25×80 feet–more hardscaping in the front yard)
downside with the manual mower—it will not cut reedy type weeds or grass. you will need a weed whacker to trim those.
i have a toro mower. never had any kind of problems with it. as far as electric mowers i had one a long time ago and got rid of it because i got tired of messing with the cord all the time or running over it and chopping it up. doesnt do your heart much good when the sparks fly. i have heard of a rechargeable mower that you can plug in tp charge, then mow. no cord in the way. dont know anything about them, but its a good idea if your yard isnt too big. no noise either, so you can mow early in the morning without getting the neighbors mad.
A goat would probably be your "BEST" lawn mower for a small yard.
I haven’t seen an electric one yet though………..
OK, now lets get serious.
You can purchase a good quality push mower for less than $200. You will need a dry place to store it. Also, with a small yard look for the narrowest cutting width, like 20 inches, less if possible. That will keep it smaller for storage.
I bought a battery powered electric one and love it. No cord to mess with, and it will cut about 4,000 sq ft of lawn on a charge unless I’ve left it too long between mowings. It’s quiet and easy to push. But reel mowers are much better than they were, and I would certainly buy one of those for a very small lawn.
