As far as quality of cut and reliability of mower the John Deere 100 series riding mower is the best buy for the money for a homeownwer in my opinion. Very simple to operate & the cutting bed will compensate for some unevenness on a slight grade…If you have alot of steep grades and very uneven property, you may want to consider hiring professionals. I think they come with a 2 year warranty. The low end models LA105 & 115 are about $1499 — they should be fine most homeowners. They are readily available at Home Depot or Lowe's. The higher end models ($1800+) include a more powerful engine (21HP vs 19HP) and few more bells & whistles…Check out http://www.deere.com
John Deere is fine but the replacement parts are expensive. Husqvarna has several very nice models under $2000. Should you need repair the warranty coverage is very good and the parts are not as costly. http://www.needlawnmowerparts.com
