What oil type to use when changing push mower oil…?
I have a 4hp. Brogg's & Tratton push mower. So when I go to change the oil, what type should I use. The SAE, or NON Detergent, or Detergent, 30 weight.

First let me say I agree with BB just go to Briggs web site..
Years ago it was about using NON Detergent in your mowers..which you can still buy at Wal-Mart…
Now adays we just use a Good SAE 30..works just fine plus it keeps your engine a little cleaner inside..
10-w30, regular motor oil.
Use the 30w…the brands and special additives don't really matter. But don't use 10 -30 or other "car" oil. The lawn mower engine is a reciprocating single-piston engine. Not designed for multi-range oil
I buy 1 bottle of lawnmower oil per season. Not too expensive and always right.
If you need more oil, check out the lawnmower engine and inspect the oil reservoir for cracks.
Most Briggs and Stratton mowers will use SAE 30 because of temperature. You can get more information from Brigg's and Stratton's website. Their oil chart is here: http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1419&p_created=948406560
I hope this helps.
Use any brand SAE 30.
Quaker state strait 30 4 cycle oil the bottle has pictures of lawn mowers on the bottle its made for small engines.
wall mart has it.
Use SAE 30. Detergent is good for the engine.
I use 10 W 30 on all my 4 stroke small engines.
You should change that oil every 40 hrs of use. This way you can keep your engine running smoothly for a very long time.
Small engines what is know as air cooled engines is exactly what is says. Air cooled.
That means the only cooling it gets is proper level of oil in that engine and no broken fins on that fly wheel.
If you change your oil regularly your engine will last a very, very long time.
Also keep in mind that if you are cutting alot of grass lets say one acre, I would reccomend a 2cyl engine for that because your going to get it hot and 4 strokes are under alot of pressure under thick grass. This is why most commercial lawn service will use two-stroke engines becasue they can take more heat than a 4 stroke.
I reccomend a four stroke 5 hP Briggs for back up mowers only.
2 cyl Lawnboy Mowers are awesome too. When you gewt in low grass the rpm comes down and when you get in thick grass the rpm goes up. The govenor is spring loaded to the butterfly for this purpose. I've been very satisfied with Lawnboy.
Snapper makes a good mower, but their parts are high too.
